his rock garden in 1935 with rocks
found locally. He designed bridges,
buildings, a replica of the Statue of
Liberty and a terraced garden.
Petersen Rock Gardens is considered a
“unique expression of mid‐century
roadside architecture,” by the Historic
PreservaƟon League of Oregon.
