RE: Special South County Tour
SOUTH COUNTY PLAN
Deschutes County has initiated a process to prepare a land use plan for the South County area
(Sunriver south, excluding Sunriver and La Pine). The South County Plan created through this
process will be adopted into the Comprehensive Plan, an official document adopted by the Board of
County Commissioners, which sets forth general long range goals and policies on future growth and
development, consistent with statewide planning regulations. This process is currently in the
information and public input gathering phase; a draft South County Plan has not yet been prepared for
Planning Commission review. It is anticipated in late August, early September.
TOUR
Members of the Planning Commission requested that staff arrange a tour of South County to
provide general background on the area’s unique development pattern. The Planning Commission
Agenda shows the specific stop locations and their approximate times. Note that the times are not
guaranteed, and for updates during the tour please call the cell phone listed on the Agenda.
Attachment 1 provides some basic information for each stop. Attachment 2 is a map that shows the
general locations of the stops. Please take note that generally the site visits are in rural
subdivisions without specific pull outs or off-street parking. It will be important to watch for
oncoming vehicles and be mindful of nearby neighbors.
NEXT STEP
Community meetings are scheduled to brainstorm ways to address the land use issues raised so
far in this process.
