Susan was voted in as Chair, while Kate will be assuming the position of Vice Chair starting January 1st. Tom will send out a survey monkey to the Board seeking suggestions for agenda topics for next year. Susan gave a short speech thanking Jock for all his hard work as Chair during his term. Jim talked about the Planning Commission’s meeting focused on marijuana production, sales and safety issues and noted that no one from the Health Department was there. Tom chimed in and said we are not allowed to advocate for legislation, only provide information. Jim said if PHAB is interested in voicing any concerns, then a letter needs to be addressed to the BOCC no later than December 17th. He thought it would be acceptable if PHAB were to write a letter showing a different perspective. He also mentioned that some property owners living near or next to marijuana farms attended the meeting to complain about the odor being created from production. Several residents have become ill from the smell. Jim said the hearing process has been very educational and that a year ago PHAB was concentrating on youth drug prevention, so we should express our opinion.
