In a referendum, a "yes” vote means you want the law to take effect, and a "no" vote means you do not want the law to take effect. This past fall,70,320 Oregonians signed a petition to allow citizens to vote on Measure 101.The provisions of Measure 101 will not become law unless Oregon voters approve it at a special election to be held on January 23, 2018. This voters' pamphlet contains information on Measure 101. Typically, Oregon does not hold elections in January. However,the legislature chose to call a special election for Measure 101 on January 23. I encourage you to always study the issues,and make your,voice heard by participating in all elections. To ensure your right to vote,you can verify your registration, update your address or your political party by visiting www.oregonvotes.gov/myvote. January 2 is the deadline to register to vote in the January 23 election. Citizens can register online at www.oregonvotes.gov/register. Ballots for Measure 101 will be mailed beginning January 3,2018. Since this election is solely on Measure 101, no candidates or other measures will appear on the ballot. Make sure your ballot is physically received by your county elections office not later than 8:00 pm on January 23. Postmarks do not count. If mailed early enough,you can return your ballot through the mail or you can take it to one of our many drop boxes throughout the state.
