If you are not yet 62 but are receivingFederal Social Security Disability, you may qualify. There have been significant changes to this program andthere is an income limitation to qualify. Applications must bedelivered to the Assessor’s Office by April 15, 2022.  Under these programs, the State of Oregon pays taxes for youand places a lien on the property that accrues 6% interestannually. These amounts are deferred and are payable upondisqualification from the program. If you are on or have applied for senior deferral and still havequestions, please contact the Oregon Department of Revenue at (503) 945-8348 or (800) 356-4222. Oregon Senior and Disabled Citizen Program Veterans who are 40% or more disabled, or survivingspouses who have not remarried, may be entitled to areduction in property taxes.  Applications are required; thefiling deadline is April 1, 2022. Disabled Veteran or Surviving Spouse of a Veteran — Tax Exemption Program City of Bend: Voters approved a new road bond for $190million. The bond will first be levied in the 2022-23 taxyear.Deschutes Public Library: Voters approved a new $195million bond for 21 years.Redmond School District: Voters approved a new $27.5million bond for 21 years.Sisters School District: Voters approved a new $33.8million bond for 20 years.Bend Urban Renewal Agency: The City created the BendCore Area Urban Renewal Plan area. This will not changethe total amount of tax you pay, but now displays theportion of your tax that goes to this new urban renewalarea.Redmond Urban Renewal Agency: The City created theSouth 97 Urban Renewal Plan area. This will not changethe total amount of tax you pay, but now displays theportion of your tax that goes to this new urban renewalarea. River Bend Estates SRD increased their requested levyfrom $15,000 to $25,000.Countywide Law Enforcement District reduced theirrequested levy from $1.08 to $1.05 per $1,000 ofassessed value. Instructions on how to sign-up for email statements are available on the enclosed flyer. Your authorization code is printed on your tax statement. Mail your payments in the envelope provided or toDeschutes County Tax Collector, PO Box 7559, Bend, OR 97708-7559. Payments must be postmarked no later than Monday,Nov. 15th in order to be eligible for the discount and toavoid late penalties (ORS 305.820, ORS 311.505) . If you are mailing your payment close to the due dateand using the USPS, it is advised that you get a hand-stamped postmark or receipt from the post officeshowing your payment was mailed on or before the duedate. The postmark is not applied until it reaches adistribution center, which is not at your local post office. Tax Payment Options It is the Property Owner’s responsibility to know if thelender will be paying the taxes. Generally, if you receive a yellow statement from the County, a lender has requested your information and will be makingpayment. If you receive a green statement, no lender hasrequested your information. If in doubt, please contact yourlender. Pay by mail You can pay your taxes online at www.deschutes.org/tax Visa, Mastercard, American Express and Discover creditcards, Visa and Mastercard debit cards and electronic checksare accepted. Convenience fees apply. Visa and Mastercard debit cardswill be charged a flat fee of $3.95 per transaction. All otherdebit card and all credit card payments will be charged 2.5%of the payment amount with a minimum fee of $2 pertransaction. eCheck payments will be charged $2 per transaction or $10 if the payment is greater than $10,000. Deschutes Countydoes not collect or retain any portion of the convenience fee. Pay online Call (866) 871-5856 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to payusing a debit or credit card or an electronic check.The same fees apply as payments made online.Please have your six-digit tax account number and amountyou are paying ready before calling. Pay by phone Use our convenient drive-up drop box located at the front ofour building, 1300 NW Wall Street, Bend, (enter on the WallStreet side). Look for the white box labeled Property TaxPayments. The drop box is available 24 hours a day, 7 days aweek. NEW: Redmond location, 411 SW 9th Street, Redmond inthe parking lot behind City Hall. Entrance on DeschutesAvenue. This box is open Oct. 25 - Nov. 15, Jan. 25 - Feb. 15,and April 25 - May 16. Pay at our drop boxes Make your payment in person at 1300 NW Wall Street,Suite 203, (2nd Floor) in Bend, Monday through Fridayfrom 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Pay in person A separate payment should be scheduled for each taxaccount using the six-digit tax account number. Thesepayments are posted as of the date the funds are received. Payments should be made well in advance of the due date asthey are often received several days after your scheduled duedate. If you have questions about your delivery date, contact yourbank. IF FUNDS ARE RECEIVED AFTER NOV. 15, THEDISCOUNT WILL BE LOST AND INTEREST WILL ACCRUE.
