Intention is sustainability. Holly Harris BHAB is supportive of having a BHAB/PHAB meeting all together  Legislative update -Tom Interesting session. OHA budget bill 5525, was in committee last week and we found out “To promote and protect the health and safety of our community.” Updated 1/30/24 that instead of the 50million to PH modernization pledged by the governor, it was 30million; local public health can only expect 10million. Very small increase compared New formula for modernization, CBOs and local PH get equal amounts. Might try and get some of these budget amounts increased, Christmas tree bill; these are being worked on to get more than 30million. Carmen asked if there is a way to form an initiative to connect CBOs and PH. Tom said that historically, local PH hasn’t had a lot of interaction with the CBOs, so that would be something to work towards. Commissioner Chang suggested the PHAB could be an org to help bridge that gap. No shared set of priorities or regulation. Colleen asked if the budget reduction will directly impact some programs; Tom said no but it will impact certain hiring and FTEs available. Commissioner Chang pointed out that from a fiscal vantage point; the less PH gets the more will be asked of the general fund. He also noted that substance abuse disorders and homelessness are really what is getting the focus right now and PH isn’t seen as part of that.  Health Heroes update & discussion –Tom, Rob, & Colleen 3 way tie for individual award has turned into a 5 way tie. 2 PHAB members need to vote still. Consensus that we have winners come in person at the September Meeting.
